Let’s say you went out on a weekend to party. You had fun then the party is over. It is time to go home. Yet you live a little bit outskirts of Freiburg, you do not feel like cycling back or you simply do not feel safe for any reason or do not feel like going home by public transportation. Then there is an alternative you can prefer. Keep reading to find out what it is!
Since 10th December 2017, there is a new service offered by Freiburger Verkehrs AG in cooperation with the city: Das FrauenNachtTaxi. The service is launched for women in Freiburg who want to commute home safely from the city center at night. SaferTraffic network keeps working at nights and the good thing is you can combine this taxi service with the SaferTraffic destinations if you happen to live a bit off the route.
How Does It Work?
On the nights from Friday to Sunday at 0:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. the taxis run from the city center; from the opposite of Müller store towards the south of the street, to be more precise (however it should be remembered that the taxi stop will be relocated to Siegesdenkmal stop, once the construction is completed)

To use the night taxi you need a voucher that costs 7€. The vouchers are available at designated VAG shops or at “Motel One” at Friedrichring 1. What is even more easier is that you can but a mobile ticket via VAG app; if you do this you have to buy the ticket maximum one hour before the departure.
Once you have the ticket you can use these shared taxis that travel in all four directions within Freiburg city area. If you happen to be more crowded then additional taxis will be called in. Two of the taxis are also suitable for electric wheelchairs. For more information you can check out the http://www.safer-traffic.de or http://www.freiburg.de/frauenbeauftragte websites.
My personal opinion is that it is a good service to have, yet I wish to live in a world where women can feel safe anytime anywhere and don’t feel the need to take extra precautions as segregating themselves from the usual transportation networks or simply being able to walk or cycle home with peace of mind.
